About the World Trails Network

The World Trails Network (WTN) is a global community dedicated to the world’s trails and the people who love them. With members in more than 40 countries, WTN connects trail organizations, managers, tourism operators, researchers, Indigenous leaders, and passionate walkers who share a vision: trails are essential pathways that connect us to nature, culture, heritage, and each other.

Through collaborative projects, ambassador programs, and task teams, WTN works to:

  • Protect and promote trails worldwide
  • Share knowledge and innovation in trail management and tourism
  • Celebrate the cultural stories and natural heritage carried by trails
  • Inspire communities to value trails as vital to health, wellbeing, and the environment

Why a World Trails Conference?

The World Trails Conference is a biennial event that has been bringing together trail professionals, enthusiasts, and communities from around the globe since its inception in 2010. Hosted every two years in a different country, previous hosts include Ottawa, Canada; Skiathos, Greece; Santiago de Compostela, Spain; Tottori, Japan; and Jeju Island, Korea. This edition of the biennial conference for the global trail sector will also be the first to be held in the Southern Hemisphere, making Perth a truly historic host city.

WTN hosts the World Trails Conference — the only global gathering dedicated entirely to trails.

It’s where the international trail community comes together to:

  • Exchange ideas and expertise
  • Build partnerships across borders and sectors
  • Learn from inspiring case studies in conservation, tourism, and culture
  • Celebrate the power of trails to connect people and places

For professionals, it’s a chance to collaborate and shape the future of trails. For trail enthusiasts, it’s an inspiring celebration of everything trails bring to our lives.

At its heart, the conference is about one simple truth: trails connect the world.
